The powermonkey explorer - Powertraveller's flagship portable charger for the great outdoors - has had an update.
As most smartphones now are either Apple or utilise the micro USB adaptor, we've changed the output adaptor from the old standard of DC 3.5 to micro USB, meaning you can connect directly to any 5V device which has a micro USB charging socket. If you have an Apple device, simply connect the included female micro USB to female USB adaptor on to the tail of the monkey and then connect your Apple-supplied white sync / charge cable.
This Apple-approved compact charger will give juice to a plethora of other 5V devices including iPods / MP3 players, GPS systems, Sat Navs, head lamps, torches, e-readers and more. The battery unit incorporates a 2200mAh lithium-ion battery which will give 1-2 charges on an iPhone / smartphone, 2-6 charges of an iPod (dependent on the model) and 1-2 recharges of GPS systems.
Tough, water-resistant and lightweight, the powermonkey explorer can be recharged in two ways; via the included solar panel or via a computer's USB socket. The solar panel draws power from the sun and coverts it into energy to charge the powermonkey battery unit. The battery unit features MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracker) technology which enables more efficient charging in low-light conditions. You can even purchase a "Y" cable to allow you to connect two panels to the battery at the same time - allowing faster charging from the sun.
With a total weight of just 171g, this updated powermonkey explorer continues to offer reliable charging capabilities whilst remaining durable and robust.
